Everything you need to know about Nebulizers: Read our Nebulizers guide

McKesson Adult aerosol masks are designed to use with nebulizers systems that turn liquid (medications, saline) into a mist for fast and efficient aerosol delivery of medication into the lungs, providing relief from symptoms such as cough, restricted airways due to an asthma attack, wheezing, and shortness of breath.  As an alternative to mouthpieces, or for those who struggle with using inhalers, the mask fastens behind the head using an adjustable strap, making this a hands-free option so you can read or just relax during the treatment time. McKesson aerosol masks have a leak-proof seal and are made from non-latex rubber. The 45-degree elbow permits nebulizing in upright or angled positions providing flexibility during treatment for caregivers and patients.

These masks are sturdy and easy to use - simply attach the mask to a nebulizer cup (also called the medication bowl), pour the liquid solution or prescribed medicine into the cup, and attach one end of the reservoir tubing to the bottom of the medication bowl and the other into the compressor. Nebulizers promote easier breathing by allowing fast delivery of medication into the lungs to help loosen mucus which can be coughed out more easily, and airways relax allowing more airflow in and out of the lungs.

Clean the reusable mask after each use, and disinfect it after every other. It’s recommended to replace masks every 4-6 months.

Who should be using this product?

Determining what mask is best for you needs should always be a conversation between you and your doctor.

That said, McKesson Aerosol Adult Masks are used with nebulizer machines and are a preferred solution for those who struggle to hold a mouthpiece in place, such as:

  • Young adults

  • Those facing cognitive decline

  • Those with lack of movement or difficulty moving their face, such as those that have suffered a stroke

  • Those that are bedbound

  • Intended for single-person use (do not share nebulizer masks)

If you have a respiratory problem or infection, this light mist can be much easier to inhale than medication from an inhaler.

How do you use or apply this product?

  • First, fill the nebulizer cup with prescribed medicine or saline solution.

  • Connect the cup to the nebulizer mask and secure using the adjustable strap.

  • Using tubing provided in the kit, connect one end to the nebulizer cup and the other to the machine.

  • Turn the machine on and breathe normal breaths until the medicine is finished.

  • The pressurized air from the compressor breaks the liquid down into a mist which is absorbed into the lungs, helping airways to relax and allow more airflow in and out of the lungs.

  • Absence of a mist indicates that either the medicine and treatment time is complete or disconnected with the mask and tubing. Simply check the nebulizer cup to assess.

How do you breathe through a nebulizer mask?

You should breathe normally when wearing a nebulizer mask.

How should I wear the nebulizer mask?

Masks should cover your mouth and nose and be secured with an adjustable strap. Keep the nebulizer cup in an upright position for proper medicine distribution.

How do you clean your mask and tubing?

Clean your nebulizer after each use, and disinfect your nebulizer every other time you use it by:

  1. Remove the mouthpiece or mask and the container for the liquid medicine

  2. Wash the medicine container and mouthpiece with hot water and dish soap

  3. Rinse under hot water for 30 seconds, removing soap residue

  4. Shake off excess water and air dry

  5. Tubing should not be submerged in water. Clean only the outside using a soapy cloth or disinfectant wipe.

How to disinfect your mask:

  1. Remove the mouthpiece or mask and the container for liquid medicine

  2. Soak pieces in one part white vinegar, three parts hot water, for one hour

  3. Allow pieces to air dry
